How this data is built
Every investor profile, firm page, list and YC page on Round Funded is generated from one catalog. This page explains where the catalog comes from, what each label on a page means, how the lists are ordered, and how to fix an error. It exists so a founder, a journalist or an answer engine can tell what a number on this site is and is not claiming.
Where the catalog comes from
The catalog combines public sources (fund websites, portfolio pages, press, public filings and company registries, public professional profiles) with our own verification of contact details. Each investor and firm row carries the fields we could confirm: name, role, firm, location, stages, sectors, investments on record. A field we could not confirm is left empty rather than guessed.
What "active" means
A profile is marked active when the investor or fund shows recent investment activity in our sources, on the order of the last six months, and has not been archived. It is a catalog-level claim about sourcing, not a guarantee that a specific person will write a check this quarter. Profiles are re-checked continuously and archived when they go stale.
How the list pages are ranked
The "N investors in X" and "N VC firms in X" pages are filtered reads of the same catalog: geography, stage, sector and investor type come from the row, never from an editorial pick. Rows are ordered by investments on record and by how complete the profile is. The number in a title is a tier computed from the live count at render time (100, 50, 35, 25 or 20), so a title never claims more rows than the page shows; a page whose count falls under the floor is removed.
Check sizes, stages and sectors
Stage and sector tags come from the investor's recorded deals and stated focus. A typical check size shown on a row is an estimate derived from stage, not a promise, which is why it never appears in a page title. When a row shows a number of investments, that is the count on record in our sources, not a complete deal history.
The YC application pages
Y Combinator keeps submitted applications private. Every application on a YC company page is a reconstruction: the real form questions, answered from the company's public data (its one-liner, description, location, batch and founders). Each page says so, shows the Company section free, and never presents a reconstructed answer as the original text.
What we never publish
No personal email or phone number is shown on a public page; contact details are available only to signed-in founders. We do not publish our own performance metrics (reply rates, funnel numbers, money raised by users) on public pages, in any form. No profile is paid for or sponsored.
Corrections and removals
If a profile is wrong, out of date, or you want it removed, write to team@roundfunded.com with the page URL. Corrections are applied to the catalog, so every list that includes the row updates on its next render; removal requests are honored and the row is kept out of future imports.
