What CB Insights Is and How It Works
The CB Insights homepage claims 13M+ company profiles, rankings across 1,700+ tech markets and 1.5 million deals with cited origins, and says it leads in recent deal coverage, with 20% of transactions reported directly by investors. Its About page and older pages give lower counts (12M+ companies, 1,600+ markets), so treat the counts as marketing claims.
The homepage frames the product as a strategy workflow: set the strategy, screen for prospects, test for fit, follow the money. Signature pieces are the Mosaic score (a momentum score for companies), intelligent watchlists with alerts, and ranked lists such as the AI 100 and Fintech 100. A research library (9,000+ reports, per its November 2024 page), customer transcripts and analyst briefings sit on top.
The newer layer is AI. ChatCBI is a strategy LLM powered by CB Insights data and analysis, and Company Analysis agents analyze companies and their investor and commercial relationships. Every Terminal seat includes an individual MCP connector, so your own AI agents can query CB Insights.
CB Insights Pricing in 2026
What the official pricing page says. It describes a seat-based Terminal and consumption-based Data Solutions (enterprise MCP, API and data feeds). As of October 2026 both show "Request Pricing". A November 2024 official page says contracts are annual, with full payment upfront.
Prices CB Insights has published. Two older official pages list fixed prices: Dealmaker (April 2025) and the Startup Access Program (November 2024), open only to companies under 1,000 employees.
| Plan | Price | Billing | What it includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Research Unlimited | $200 per user/month | $2,400 a year | 9,000+ report library and 1,600+ live market profiles |
| User License (Insights Edge) | $417 per user/month | $5,000 a year | Full platform, one user |
| Team Access | $1,700 per team/month | $20,400 a year | Team-wide, up to 10 licenses |
| Demand Accelerator | $5,000 per team/month | $60,000 a year | Team Access plus 2 joint webinars and reprint rights |
| MCP, individual license | $6,000 | Period not stated | Up to 50,000 tool calls a year, 250 a day |
| MCP, team-wide plan | $30,400 | Period not stated | Up to 250,000 tool calls a year, 1,250 a day |
These prices date from 2024 and 2025 and are not on the current pricing page we reviewed, so confirm with sales; a large enterprise may be quoted differently.
What third parties report. The Geeks Club says it read the pricing page on 1 October 2026 and lists the User License at $417 a month billed $5,000 a year and Team Access at $1,700 a month, figures the official page we reviewed does not show. SpotSaaS calls pricing custom and undisclosed. Treat both as secondhand.
What CB Insights Does Well
- Market and competitor research. A Capterra reviewer titled a January 2025 five-star review "Must have for competitive landscape analysis," and G2's review summary says users praise timely, relevant data and personalized daily summaries.
- Research reports. A G2 reviewer called its reports "quite good" and more timely than the standard quarterly reports other platforms publish, especially on what specific investors do in each industry.
- Deal and valuation context. It pairs cap tables and revenue multiples with 1.5 million deals whose origins are cited. Round Funded offers no market research, valuation estimates or company financials, so for comps or a valuation benchmark on an acquisition, CB Insights is the stronger tool.
- AI access. ChatCBI and the Company Analysis agents work inside the product; the MCP connector lets your own AI agents query its data.
Where CB Insights Falls Short
- Price. A Capterra reviewer in 2022 called pricing "QUITE salty," and a 2023 reviewer wrote that the high price of the premium versions suits mainly large organizations or universities.
- Contacts and early-stage data. G2's alternatives summary says it has limited contact information compared to PitchBook and ZoomInfo, less comprehensive early-stage company data, and fewer search and filter customization options.
- Integrations. The same summary says it lacks some advanced integrations, such as the Excel and Salesforce plugins that PitchBook and Crunchbase offer. We did not check it against its own integration list.
- Search. Some G2 users say search could be more intuitive for specific queries.
CB Insights vs Round Funded
| Criteria | CB Insights | Round Funded |
|---|---|---|
| Main job | Market intelligence for strategy, M&A and venture teams | Finding and reaching investors for a raise |
| What the data covers | Companies, markets, deals and investor activity | An investor database: 60,000+ active VCs, angels, family offices and accelerators with a check in the last 6 months |
| Entry price | From $2,400 a year (reports and market profiles) or $5,000 for the full platform on its 2024-2025 pages; "Request Pricing" now | Round+ $99/month |
| Contract | Annual, paid upfront (per its 2024 page) | Monthly plans, or $899 Lifetime one-time |
| Trial | 10 days | 3 days on Round+ and Round Pro for first-time accounts, card required |
| Outreach | No outreach tool found in the pages we reviewed | AI-drafted emails sent from your own Gmail |
| Data Room | Not found in the pages we reviewed | Free to build and share; tracked links on Round+ and above |
| AI connector | Individual MCP on every Terminal seat | MCP server on paid plans; the agent never sends email |
CB Insights wins when the question is "which market or company should we bet on?" A corporate strategy team, a CVC arm or a fund screening a sector gets market rankings, analyst research and deal context that Round Funded does not try to offer.
Round Funded wins when the question is "who will write my check, and how do I reach them?" A founder raising a round does not need an enterprise terminal; they need active investors, personalized outreach from their own Gmail, a pipeline and a Data Room to send.

Who Should Use CB Insights
Choose CB Insights if you run corporate strategy, M&A or a corporate venture program, you need market rankings, momentum scores and analyst research, and an annual contract fits your budget.
Skip it if your job is raising a round rather than researching markets: the bottleneck is a list of active investors and a way to contact them. Start with Investor Match, which returns the 10 best-fit active investors.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CB Insights cost?
As of October 2026, the CB Insights pricing page shows "Request Pricing" for both its Terminal and Data Solutions. Earlier official pages listed a User License at $5,000 a year ($417 a month), Team Access at $20,400 a year for up to 10 licenses and Research Unlimited at $2,400 a year, on annual contracts paid upfront. Those pages date from 2024 and 2025, so ask sales for a quote.
Does CB Insights have a free trial or free plan?
CB Insights describes a 10-day free trial on its own pages. On a free plan the sources disagree: The Geeks Club says there is none, Capterra lists a free version, and SpotSaaS says there is neither a trial nor a free plan. A 2022 Capterra reviewer noted that even free users get plenty of intel from its reports. If you only need investor names for a raise, Round Funded's Find Investors tool gives free matches.
Is CB Insights legit, and is it worth it?
Yes, it is an established company founded in 2009, rated 4.4 out of 5 from 16 reviews on G2. It is worth it for strategy, M&A and venture teams that use its research regularly. A founder raising a round does not need an enterprise terminal; Round+ at $99/month covers investor search, outreach and a pipeline.
Can founders use CB Insights to find investors?
Partly. Stanford's library guide calls it a database on "private companies and investor activity," and its November 2024 Startup Access Program page pitches it as a way to find "the right investors or partners." G2 notes limited contact information, and we found no email outreach tool in the pages we reviewed. Round Funded is built for the contact, outreach and tracking steps.
What are the main alternatives to CB Insights?
G2's alternatives page names PitchBook, Crunchbase and ZoomInfo in its comparisons. Round Funded is the alternative built for reaching investors. Our investor database roundup compares more options.
Is Round Funded affiliated with CB Insights?
No. Round Funded is not affiliated with CB Insights. This page is an independent comparison built from the public CB Insights pages and published third-party sources, with facts as of October 2026. Prices and plans change, so confirm current terms with CB Insights before you buy.
Final Word
CB Insights is a serious research platform for teams deciding which markets and companies to bet on. If your goal is to close a round, you need active investors and a way to reach them, not an enterprise terminal.
