How to actually use a match list

A list of 10 investors is the starting point, not the finish line. Four moves to turn matches into meetings.

01

Email the bottom 3 first to test your pitch

Your top match is your best shot. Do not waste it on a draft pitch. Email matches 8, 9, 10 first. Iterate the pitch based on their replies. Then hit matches 1, 2, 3 with the polished version.

02

Read the partner's last 5 LinkedIn posts before emailing

Match score tells you the fund fits. Partner research tells you which partner to email and what to say. Spend 5 minutes per partner. Reference one specific thing they wrote or invested in. Generic emails to specific partners get ignored.

03

Email the partner, not the analyst

Partners write checks. Analysts route emails. "info@" addresses are a black hole. Find the partner's direct email and email them. If you cannot find it, our database has 10,000+ partner-direct emails verified in the last 90 days.

04

Reuse the matched logic in follow-ups

If a match scored high because of a recent thesis post, reference it again in your follow-up. If high because of a portfolio overlap, reference the portfolio company. Make every touchpoint specific to that investor's fit.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from Crunchbase or Signal?

Crunchbase tells you who exists. Signal lists VCs. We filter to ACTIVE investors (last check under 6 months) and rank by fit to YOUR specific stage, industry, and geo. We do the matching, not just the listing.

What if my industry is niche?

We cover SaaS, fintech, AI, health tech, consumer, marketplace, climate, dev tools, and more on Round+. For very niche industries (defense tech, robotics, biotech), the match still works but the list is shorter and more curated.

Do you include angels and family offices?

Yes, the database covers VC funds, angel investors, family offices, and accelerators. For pre-seed founders, angels often dominate the match list. For Series A+, VC funds dominate.

Is the match list the same as the investor database?

No. The database has 10,000+ investors. The match is the top 10 specific to your profile. You can browse the full database on Round+ if you want to filter further or build a longer list.

How often is investor data updated?

Weekly. We track last investment date, partner changes, fund closes, and thesis updates so the match stays current. Inactive funds get filtered out automatically.
