What Metal Is and How It Works
Metal's central idea is what it calls an "investor memory layer". In its October 2026 seed announcement, Metal says its team spent three years building it. Its G2 profile, which Metal manages, adds that the layer ranks the most relevant investors for your company and explains why.
Per that profile, Agent Mode identifies, qualifies and ranks investors, surfaces warm intro paths, drafts intro requests and analyzes your pipeline. A feature called Metal Media scans new fund announcements and interviews for funds that match your raise.
Autopilot, which Metal describes as end-to-end automation via a human-in-the-loop model, covers the operational work around a raise, from round collateral and round strategy to legal support. Investor Relations, launched in 2026, adds investor updates, follow-on intelligence and an emerging co-investor network.
Metal Pricing in 2026
We found no list price for Metal. As of October 2026, Metal's own guide comparing it with Crunchbase says pricing is custom and based on your stage, from pre-seed through Series B, and that every user books a demo and completes a trial first. G2 says the vendor has not listed prices there either.
What is public is the plan structure, per Metal's pricing page and its G2 listing:
- Platform Access + MCP (recommended for all stages): investor intelligence, intro pathways, pipeline, meeting intelligence, comms center, round coach, investor updates and an MCP integration.
- Autopilot (request access): for founders raising Late Seed, Series A or later; adds full-service capital support with round strategy, collateral, pipeline formation and legal support.
Per G2, free trials are available, and founders in select accelerator and portfolio partner programs get discounted pricing. One G2 reviewer mentions a quarterly payment; another, who gave 5/5, calls Metal "not crazy expensive". Neither is a published price, so ask for a quote during the demo.
For comparison, Round Funded publishes its prices on its pricing page: as of October 2026, Round+ is $99/month, Round Pro is $249/month and Lifetime is $899 one-time. Round+ and Round Pro include a 3-day free trial for first-time accounts (card required); there is no free tier.
What Metal Does Well
- Investor ranking with reasons. Metal says its ranking explains why each investor fits, and one G2 reviewer says you can narrow a long VC list to the ones that make sense and "understand why". Round Funded makes no such claim.
- Warm intro paths. One 5/5 G2 reviewer describes turning a wish list of target funds into intro paths, including through LinkedIn. Round Funded sends direct email from your own Gmail instead of mapping intro paths, so if your network is your main asset, Metal is aimed squarely at it.
- Accelerator backing. Metal says Techstars adopted it as the default fundraising platform across its portfolio of 10k+ founders and that 100+ YC founders use it after Demo Day; it also lists ERA, Alchemist, a16z speedrun and Goodwater Capital as partners.
- Help beyond software. Autopilot adds collateral, round strategy and legal support for Late Seed, Series A and later raises. Round Funded has no done-for-you service.
- After the round. Investor Relations extends Metal beyond the raise, and Metal states it is SOC 2 compliant.
Where Metal Falls Short
- No list price, demo first. We found no list price in the pages we reviewed, and Metal's own guide says every user books a demo and completes a trial first.
- One onboarding complaint. A 1/5 G2 review from September 2026, titled "Solid Investor Research; Incredibly Poor Onboarding. Cancelled!", praised the research but described little follow-through after the sale. It is one review of 20, and a 5/5 reviewer called setup "very easy".
- Tutorials on advanced features. G2's summary notes users want more detailed tutorials on advanced features, and the 5/5 reviewer asked for slightly more detail on the intro pathway.
- Built for venture rounds. Metal positions itself for venture-backed founders and says 40%+ of its revenue comes from Series A customers, so a founder not raising venture capital is not the audience it describes.
