How DocSend and Papermark Differ

Ownership and model

DocSend was founded in 2013; in March 2021 Dropbox agreed to acquire it for $165 million, and its site calls it part of Dropbox. Papermark is fully open source, can be self-hosted, and launched on Product Hunt in 2023.

Analytics and controls

Both give page-by-page analytics, passcode or password protection, email verification, approved-viewer lists and dynamic watermarks (for DocSend, per one G2 reviewer). Papermark's pricing page lists screenshot protection on Business, NDA agreements on the €99 Data Rooms plan, and analytics history from 30 days on Free to two years on Business and Data Rooms.

Data rooms

DocSend's Spaces put many files behind one link, and Advanced Data Rooms allows up to 4,000 files per Space. Papermark's €99 plan lists unlimited data rooms and storage; its pricing list puts the audit log and request uploads on Data Rooms Plus (€249 a month billed yearly). Both run an MCP server: DocSend via a Perplexity Computer connector, Papermark for agents such as Claude and ChatGPT.

Pricing model

Per Adlega, DocSend bills Personal and Standard per user, and Advanced and Advanced Data Rooms as flat plans with three users plus $60 a month per extra user on yearly billing ($90 monthly). Papermark's plans include one member on Free and Pro and three on Business and Data Rooms.

Pricing Compared

As of October 2026, at the three-user and data room tiers Papermark's euro figures are below DocSend's dollar figures (€59 against $150, €99 against $180, billed yearly; currencies not converted). DocSend's pricing page showed no figures in our research, so its dollar figures are third-party readings. Revspire (October 20) gives Advanced at $150 and Advanced Data Rooms at $180 billed yearly ($250 and $300 monthly); dataroom-providers.org (September 29) gives the same monthly figures. The entry tiers are disputed: Adlega (October 12) gives a range starting at $10 and Pitchroom (September) lists Personal at $10 per user, both billed yearly, while dataroom-providers.org says Personal is gone and puts Standard at $43 per user, and Revspire saw two different Personal and Standard prices. Capterra lists Papermark in dollars (Pro $29 per user, Business $59 and Data Rooms $99 flat), which we could not match to its euro page. Check your own case in the data room cost calculator.

Or Neither: What a Founder Raising a Round Needs

A founder needs more than a tracked link: investors to send it to, outreach, and a view of who engaged. An investor database or outreach was not found in the vendors' own pages we reviewed; a Capterra summary of Papermark mentions investor databases, which we could not confirm there.

Round Funded's investor database holds 60,000+ active VCs, angels, family offices and accelerators, filtered to a check in the last 6 months, and works in 12 languages. Outreach is AI-drafted and sent from your own Gmail, and a pipeline is built in. The Data Room (deck, traction, team and ask on one link) is free to build and share on every plan; per-investor tracked links and engagement analytics (views, deck opens, meeting clicks) come with Round+ and above.

Round+ costs $99 a month, Round Pro $249 a month and Lifetime $899 one time (as of October 2026); see pricing. Round+ and Round Pro start with a 3-day free trial for first-time accounts (card required); there is no free tier.

What DocSend and Papermark do that Round Funded does not:

  • Hold a full diligence room. DocSend has Spaces and a Diligence Tracker; Papermark lists unlimited data rooms, Q&A, signatures and audit logs. Round Funded's Data Room holds your fundraising pack, not a deal file.
  • Start free. Papermark has a free plan and DocSend a no-card 14-day trial; Round Funded has no free tier, and its 3-day trial needs a card.
  • Self-host. Papermark's code is open and can run on your own servers; Round Funded is hosted.
