Ramp was founded in New York in 2019, not San Francisco. It raised a modest seed, took a 28 percent haircut in 2023, and was valued at $44 billion in June 2026. The dip is the useful part.
Eric Glyman, Karim Atiyeh and Gene Lee started Ramp in March 2019 in New York. Founders Fund and Coatue put in about $8 million as a seed, which is a real amount of money and nowhere near the numbers the company would later raise.
They built it in Manhattan. Offices in San Francisco and Miami came later and additionally, not instead. For a company selling corporate cards to American businesses, being in New York turned out to be an ordinary decision rather than a handicap.
