Revolut raised its first money in 2015 from a London fund, stayed in London, and ten years later reported $6 billion of audited revenue and $2.3 billion of profit. No relocation, no Valley address.
Nikolay Storonsky and Vladyslav Yatsenko started Revolut in July 2015 to fix something small and specific: the terrible exchange rate you get spending abroad. The first cheque, about 1.5 million pounds, came from Balderton Capital, a London firm, at a valuation of roughly 8 million.
They did not move. Revolut is still headquartered in Canary Wharf, and signed a ten-year lease there in 2024. Every round after the first came to London rather than the founders going to Sand Hill Road.

The first cheque came from a fund in the same city, and everything after that was arithmetic. Revolut's 2025 accounts show $6 billion of revenue and about $2.3 billion of profit before tax, up from a $32 million loss in 2018. Those are audited figures rather than a company estimate, which is rarer than it should be at this size.

Balderton is a London firm backing a London company. The seed was about 1.5 million pounds, not a headline number. Whatever city you are in, the first cheque is far more likely to come from someone who can already reach you than from a fund on another continent.

Each round is an argument the last one won
Seed to $66M to $250M to $500M to $800M. Nobody handed them the big round first. Every raise was easier because the previous one had happened, which is the strongest possible reason to start the first conversation now rather than when you feel ready.

Staying put cost them nothing
They never relocated to the US, and SoftBank and Tiger Global still led an $800 million round into a London company. If your plan involves moving before you raise, check whether that is actually a requirement or just a story you have absorbed.
