Anysphere, fundada en 2022

Three years ago Cursor was a demo four students showed to investors. In June 2026, SpaceX agreed to buy it for $60 billion, the largest acquisition of a venture backed startup on record. Here is the whole funding history, and the part of it a founder can copy.

In 2022 four MIT students started Anysphere. Their product was Cursor, a code editor that writes code alongside you. At the start there was no revenue and no famous logo on the team, just a working thing you could open and use.

In October 2023 the OpenAI Startup Fund led an $8M seed. Founders read that line and think the story starts with a famous fund. It does not. It starts with a demo good enough that showing it was the pitch.

June 2026

SpaceX bought it for $60 billion

An all stock deal announced on 16 June and expected to close that quarter. It is the largest acquisition of a venture backed startup on record, two years and eight months after that first $8M seed cheque.

Lo que dicen las cifras

Not one of those rounds was priced on how big Cursor already was. Every single one was priced on where it was going. The Series A closed before most people had heard the name, and revenue followed the same curve rather than leading it: Cursor passed $100M of annualised revenue in January 2025, and was reported at roughly $2.6B by the time SpaceX announced the deal. Nobody along the way was rewarding a finished company. They were buying direction early, and competing with each other to do it.

Qué significa esto para tu ronda

  1. 01

A thing that works beats a perfect deck

Cursor got funded on a product an investor could open and use. If you have something working, even something small, you are already fundable. The revenue slide is not the entry ticket.

  2. 02

You get priced on where you are going

Every round they raised was a bet on direction. Being early is not the weakness in your raise, it is most of what you are actually selling.

  3. 03

Be in the market, not getting ready for it

Five rounds in three years means those founders were talking to investors more or less constantly. The founders who raise are the ones in conversations right now, not the ones waiting to feel ready.

Cada una de estas comenzó con una primera conversación con un inversor.
