What Univerbal does

Univerbal is an AI-powered language learning app that helps people boost their confidence simply by talking. In unscripted and dynamic conversations, users can talk about anything they’d like using the microphone, with the AI responding as it adapts to their level and skills. Each user gets a personal AI Language Tutor that creates a custom learning plan based on the language goals they’d like to work towards and their own interests, offers instant corrections after every message and helps users in their own language. Based in the country with 4 official languages, Switzerland, in 2024 we were selected as one of WIRED’s Hottest 100 Startups in Europe.

What is your company going to make? Please describe your product and what it does or will do.

We built an AI-powered language learning app where people practice speaking by having unscripted conversations with their own AI Language Tutor. It adapts to users' levels and interests, offers instant corrections, and helps learners in their own language. The goal is to boost confidence through real speaking practice rather than passive study.

Where do you live now, and where would the company be based after YC?

We live and build the company in Zürich, Switzerland, and the company will remain based here after YC.

Explain your decision regarding location.

Zürich is our home and has four official languages, which makes it a great place to build a language learning product. We want to stay connected to a multilingual market that directly reflects our app's purpose.
