What Snipd does

Grab pieces of enjoyable content from any page, save them online, and share without having to copy/paste using a simple bookmarklet. For bloggers and media sites, Snipd's widget enables readership to Snip images, videos, or text enjoyed most within articles. Snipd content becomes a destination for users, rather than a list of bookmarks because users are able to enjoy what they saved from within pages on the net. With more and more content to sift through these days, Snipd makes it easier to identify hot-zones in articles. Hot-zones are dumbed-down heat maps for content. Readers can forget skimming and focus on what people are Snipping most on any page. Because a snip is an implicit vote on a piece of content, we aggregate and figure out what area of an article is attracting the most attention.

We built a tool that lets users grab pieces of content they find enjoyable - images, videos, text - from any web page using a simple bookmarklet. Instead of saving bookmarks as lists, users save snippets that can be shared and viewed inside Snipd. Our widget also helps bloggers and media sites highlight the parts of their articles users engage with most, creating a sort of heat map to show what content is getting attention.

Where do you live now, and where would the company be based after YC?

We live and are based in Palo Alto, California, and would continue to be based here after YC.

Explain your decision regarding location.

We're already in Palo Alto, close to the tech ecosystem and early users. Staying here means easy access to YC resources and the local tech community.
