Popcuts
Online music store with peer revenue sharing
We built Popcuts as a music store where fans buy DRM-free songs for 99 cents each, but with a twist: every time a song they previously purchased sells again, they get a share of the revenue. Early buyers earn a bigger cut, creating an incentive for fans to promote the music they like. This model aims to align incentives between artists and listeners, making music sales participatory.
We live in Lucerne Valley, CA, and Popcuts is currently based here. After YC, we would consider relocating or operating remotely, depending on what benefits the company most.
We started Popcuts here because it's where we live and work, keeping operating costs low with a small team of two. YC would give us access to resources and connections we can't get here.
