What Forage does

Forage is a mission-driven payments company that helps businesses accept government benefits through a single, unified API. Today, over 42 million Americans receive government assistance (ex: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP) to buy groceries. Starting with enabling EBT SNAP online, Forage builds the financial infrastructure empowering businesses to serve these shoppers online.

What is your company going to make? Please describe your product and what it does or will do.

We build an API that lets businesses accept government benefits like SNAP online. Our product handles the complex rules and compliance around government-issued payments, starting with electronic benefits transfer (EBT) for groceries. We simplify an otherwise fragmented and difficult process, making government benefits usable on digital platforms.

Where do you live now, and where would the company be based after YC?

We live in San Francisco, CA, and would remain based there after YC.

Explain your decision regarding location.

San Francisco is the hub for fintech and government tech, which helps with finding talent and networking. Being here lets us stay close to partners and customers who serve people on government benefits.
