What Catena Biosciences does

Catena’s technology lets us attach any two proteins together using an enzyme and the native amino acids tyrosine and cysteine within target proteins. It is a true platform technology because it enables the joining of any two soluble proteins together with minimal engineering and without restrictions due to protein size or complexity. Our work has already been used to modify cancer specific antibodies, CRISPR proteins and even cell surfaces. Our ability to produce modular protein therapeutics in a fraction of the time allows for true library creation across the therapeutics spectrum from oncology, vaccines, inflammatory disease and beyond.

Describe what your company does in 50 characters or less.

Using protein coupling to build new therapies

What is your company going to make? Please describe your product and what it does or will do.

We built a protein coupling technology that lets us attach any two proteins together through an enzyme that targets tyrosine and cysteine amino acids natively present in the proteins. Unlike traditional methods, we don't engineer each protein extensively or have restrictions on size or complexity. This allows us to rapidly create modular protein therapeutics for oncology, vaccines, inflammatory diseases, and more.

Where do you live now, and where would the company be based after YC?

We live and work in Berkeley, California, and the company would remain based here after YC.

Explain your decision regarding location.

Berkeley has a strong biotech ecosystem and access to academic labs and talent we rely on. We're well situated near collaborators and in a hub of innovation for therapeutics development.
