Saffron gives teams full visibility into how candidates use AI agents to build, debug, and ship real features on an actual codebase. Saffron was founded by Robert Chondro (formerly MIT and Jane Street), Jerry Yao (Stanford and Jane Street), and Kazuma Choji (Harvey Mudd, published in NeurIPS and ICML), and is backed by Y Combinator (P26) and Afore Capital.

We built Saffron to let engineering teams evaluate candidates by seeing how they actually use AI tools to code. Instead of relying on old tests or interviews, Saffron gives full visibility into a candidate's workflow as they build, debug, and ship real features with AI assistance in a real codebase.

Where do you live now, and where would the company be based after YC?

We're all based in San Francisco now and would continue to operate here after YC.

San Francisco is where our network, potential customers, and engineering talent are concentrated, making it the best place to build Saffron.
