Hospitals also spend millions each year on 2D ultrasound training. Meanwhile, existing 3D ultrasound devices can cost >10× as much. Lumius is building fast, smart, and accessible 3D ultrasound systems to eliminate this 2D guesswork. Our technology shows a clear, real-time 3D view of what’s inside the body. It works over a large volume, not just a thin slice. The device is also affordable, compact, and portable. We are starting with vascular access, especially central line. Future use cases include blood clot detection, tumor diagnosis, and biopsy guidance. Our long-term vision is a universal 3D ultrasound platform that brings easy-to-use, real-time imaging to a wide range of clinical and eventually consumer applications.

We're building a portable 3D ultrasound device that gives clinicians a clear, real-time volumetric view inside the body instead of a flat 2D slice. Our first product targets vascular access, especially central line placement, making it easier and more reliable for doctors and nurses to see what they're doing. The device is compact, affordable, and delivers large-volume imaging to reduce the guesswork that causes many failures with traditional 2D ultrasound.

Where do you live now, and where would the company be based after YC?

We live in Durham, NC, and the company will continue to be based here after YC.

Durham has a growing healthcare tech ecosystem and proximity to major hospitals and research centers, which helps us test and improve our device. Staying here means we're close to our partners and core team members.
