The mining industry drills narrow holes in the ground called drillholes to identify how much gold is in a ground at any spot. These holes are expensive so the industry uses statistical interpolation to predict what's in between these holes. Stratum replaces these traditional methods by utilizing deep learning to better predict both where to best drill and how much gold is in between these holes. This technology is not limited to gold and has been demonstrated to work on other metals, including base metals like copper. Based on Stratum's current pilots, our technology is projected to create ~10M in annual value for the average mine.

What is your company going to make? Please describe your product and what it does or will do.

We built a deep learning system that replaces the traditional statistical interpolation methods mining companies use to predict how much gold or metal is in the ground between drillholes. Our product analyzes drillhole data and tells mining teams exactly where to drill next to maximize their profits. It works on gold and other metals like copper, improving accuracy over existing methods and saving mining companies millions.

Where do you live now, and where would the company be based after YC?

We live in Toronto, Canada, and the company is based here. After YC, we plan to keep the company in Toronto.

Explain your decision regarding location.

We are rooted in Toronto because we built connections in the local mining industry and have the right technical talent here. It's also where we started piloting our technology. We don't see a reason to relocate after YC since our customers are global and remote collaboration works fine.
