Wheelys is a chain of organic bicycle cafés that enables young people to start their own cafés. Since starting last year, Wheelys has sold over 800 cafés in 75 countries, which means it’s growing faster than any fast food chain. Ever. Wheelys vision is to make it easier for passionate people without money to open their own cafés, shops, and restaurants. Wheelys was hosted at Y Combinator (the accelerator behind Airbnb, Dropbox, and Reddit) and has been funded by, among others, Othman Laraki (Color Genomics), Paul Buchheit (creator of Gmail), Jared Friedman (founder of Scribd), and Justin Waldron (co-founder of Zynga). “We will break the hegemony of the industrial fast food chains, and pave the way for an organic revolution. What is your company going to make? Please describe your product and what it does or will do.

We make and sell an organic bicycle café franchise system. Our product is a physical bike-powered café setup that anyone can buy to start their own café without significant capital. We provide the design, branding, and support so passionate young entrepreneurs can open cafés worldwide.

Where do you live now, and where would the company be based after YC?

We live in Stockholm, Sweden. The company would be based in Stockholm after YC.

Explain your decision regarding location.

Stockholm is where we designed and built our first cafés, and where our initial team is located. It also gives us access to a market that values organic and green products, which fits our brand.
