What Turion Space does

Turion Space is building spacecraft to move things around in space and image space objects when they’re not, and focused on developing the dual-use technology required to ensure a sustainable future in space. They aim to build a strong foundation selling space domain awareness imagery data while advancing their technology towards an affordable solution for orbital debris removal and eventually asteroid mining. The founding team originates from SpaceX, and after going through the Y-combinator accelerator in summer 2021 went on to raise a $6.2M seed round and is launching their first DROID satellite in early 2023.

What is your company going to make? Please describe your product and what it does or will do.

We build spacecraft that move objects in orbit and capture imagery of space objects when others can't. Our first product focuses on high-quality space domain awareness imagery, helping customers track satellites and debris. We plan to expand towards affordable orbital debris removal and eventually asteroid mining technologies.

Where do you live now, and where would the company be based after YC?

We live and are based in Los Angeles and Irvine, California. After YC, we would remain based in Southern California, where our team and infrastructure already are.

Explain your decision regarding location.

Southern California is where the founding team lives and has access to industry talent and partners. Being near aerospace hubs and launch providers lowers risk and accelerates our development timeline.
