What Doomersion does

Doomersion (formerly Doomlingo) lets you learn languages by doomsrolling! Watch TikToks in your target language that are exactly matched to your level, and as you scroll, they get a little bit harder. Gen-Z doomscrolls 2.5-3 hours a day, and if we bake immersion into that by only showing them viral videos in another language that are matched to their level, we can make the optimal language learning method addictive for people. Hence the name, doomersion. The app gained ~15k downloads in the first two weeks, and power users spend ~3+ hours daily on the app. Feel free to download and try it yourself!

We built Doomersion to help people learn languages by scrolling through TikTok videos in their target language, matched exactly to their skill level. As users scroll, the videos gradually get harder, turning language learning into a form of addictive doomscrolling that fits how Gen-Z already spends hours daily on social media.

Where do you live now, and where would the company be based after YC?

We live in San Francisco, CA, and will base the company here after YC, with a remote team as well.

Explain your decision regarding location.

San Francisco lets us hire strong engineers and stay close to YC and the startup ecosystem. Our product is consumer-focused, and this location helps with recruiting and partnerships.
